9. Sınıf İngilizce Uplift Çalışma Kitabı Cevapları Sayfa 48

The Ancient City of Dara is located in the south-east of Mardin, in Oğuz village. It was one of the most important settlements in Mesopotamia of its time. Emperor Anastasius built the city as a military garrison in 505 because he wanted to protect the border of the Eastern Roman Empire against the Sassanids. The people of the city carved rooms into the rock to build a castle and protected it with a 4-kilometre wall. They also built an inner castle on the north side of the city. Excavations began to unearth the ancient city in 1986, and archaeologists slowly revealed a monumental graveyard at first. Now, you can visit and see all the ruins of palaces, bazaars, dungeons, and water dams.
